Hippos a stone throw away!
The camp is looking beautiful at the moment, with very long elephant grass and birds in abundance. The Weaver birds are particularly active building their new nests right on the Palm tree next to the jetty, and what a lot of chatter they make!
It is not only the birds that are busy... This morning at 7.30am we took the boat into Georgetown, with some guests from Gambia Tours. Just at the end of Pangon island we came within 10 feet of 2 very big hippos. We almost went straight over them in fact, but fortunately our captain, Sweabou, has very sharp eyesight. They were a picture and our guests were thrilled!
Hippos are usually found a little further downstream from Bird Safari Camp around the Kai Hai islands. They were probably heading for the rice fields on MacCarthy island and consequently a good feed!
